Lay Workers

Monica Heard (Circuit Family Worker, 30 hours) My role is to undertake work with children and their families building relationships and encouraging spiritual growth and faith. In the West Bridgford Church this is through a weekly Toddler group with 90 families a week, Parenting Courses shared with health visitors, a fortnightly Story Time for young children and their parents, Saturday Community Coffee mornings, an annual Holiday Club and visiting of homes. 1 encourage families in worship through leading Tea Time services, Worshipping Together and activities around the major Festivals. I am also involved in the Mums' group, which has been studying Essence by Rob Frost. In the Circuit I train workers with children through the Kaleidoscope Course, and for safeguarding, and enable a network of support."

Darren Arnold (Family Worker Clifton, 20 hours) am involved in the leadership of the Sunday School, and where appropriate lead activities during Worshipping Together. I lead Youth Fellowship and also the Thursday morning Toddlers Group. At the end of February I will be starting on Story and Activity session on Monday evening for 3 to 6 year olds. At Clifton our Activity Days are very successful during the school holidays; children and their parents do various activities either themed, like Epiphany or general crafts.

Karen Gladwin (Circuit Administrator, 10 hours) I work for 10 hours a week as an administrator for the Circuit at the West Bridgford Methodist Church. The work is quite varied. It includes helpingwith the production of the Circuit Plan, photocopying, setting up data bases and events calendars. 1 also help others with mundane jobs like filling envelopes, which leaves them free to do more important tasks.

Andi Proffitt (Circuit Lay Worker, 20 hours) land Free Church Chaplain Nottingham Trent University, 20 hours] I work full time, splitting my work between the Chaplaincy and the Circuit. spending 20 hours in each job. In the Circuit I work in Ruddington, Bradmore and Keyworth. In each village the focus of my work is on groups for young people (NG 11, Bradmore Youth Project, and KFC). I am also involved in the running of holiday clubs in each village during the school holidays. I attend each church once a month and take the junior churches. Circuit wide, I lead "Room 4", a monthly fellowship group for all the circuit young people.

In the Chaplaincy my work focuses on a range of events for both students and staff, I am part of a team of 5 part time chaplains. We hold worship, prayers, retreats, and acts of remembrance (following deaths or the recent Tsunami etc). We are also there to provide a listening car to all students and staff regardless of their faith background. Our weekly lunch, walks in the Peak District and other social events help us to get to know people who would not normally darken the doors of a church, providing an opportunity for them to ask questions and to talk about faith.

Paul Johns (Voluntary Pastoral Lay Worker Tollerton) I volunteered to act as a temporary lay pastor for three months while the minister (Rev Brian Skinner) was on sabbatical. That was over ten years ago! Since, then 1 have kept on visiting folk who have now become my friends in Tollerton. My pastoral work is erratic, because I am away so much. but as long as Tollerton put up with me I'll keep coming back for more."

Jean Smith (Voluntary Pastoral Lay Worker Clifton) As a voluntary Pastoral Assistant in the Clifton West Bridgford section my three main priorities are: i. the encouragement and support of the Pastoral Visitors at Clifton through additional visiting, particularly of the elderly, and frequent and regular attendance at worship, social activities, and Church, Circuit and Section leadership meetings. ii. the participation, prayer and pastoral support at the weekly Luncheon Club at Clifton. iii. the continuing pastoral support of past members of Trent Boulevard Methodist Church.
